Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at 10:02AM Surnames. We all have them. They are part of our ancestry and our legacy. The phrase "carrying on the family name" is usually spoken with pride.
Some last names are extremely common and some are extremely rare but they all have meaning (this would be a good spot to insert the meaning of my own last name and I probably should have thought of that before I wrote this because I haven't a clue and all my searching comes back empty).
Names like Johnson, Anderson, Isacson and Persdotter were at one time derived from a father's first name; John's Son, Ander's Son, Per's Daughter.
Names like Cook, Carpenter, Plumber and Miller were derived from a man's occupation.
Names like Fox and Bird are taken right from the animals with the same name.
So where did British Olympian Liam Tancock get his surname from?

Obviously you've been watching at least some of the Olympics. Check out the e-mail I sent to you and TYOGA and see what you think.
How about Chicago Cubs Kosuke Fuckyoudummy....I mean Fukudome?
Lame Tancock....LAME TANCOCK.....
Hey, wait a minute. That guy owes me money
Okay Mr Man which movie(s) was that from
"Barnacky?! Barnacky! He owes me money!!"
Were you referring to Bill Murray in "Stripes", Mr. TYOGA, or is there some older, more obscure movie that escaped my more youthful database of theatrical lore?
ding, ding, ding, ding
Give that lad a cookie.
I'm sure that it has been said loads of times, but then and when Z (Antz) said "Wow, every worker in the colony is here. Hey, wait a minute. That guy owes me money." were the 2 times I was thinking of.
What kind of surname is Z anyway?
